I would recommend a finer tooth blade for the table saw. It will give a cleaner cut.

On a tablesaw it is NOT advisable to use both the miter gauge and the rip fence at the same time. Chances of kick back of the cut off drastically increases. It was good to see you were careful not to stand in its path.

Get some silicone polish on the table and the rip fence the wood will slide more smoothly and easier.

Started watching during lockdown in AU and NZ. Have now cycled by many times IRL. Getting way ahead I know but I can imagine a day when there’s a brass band playing a proper RN/Veterans detail, champers, beer from Brimstage and so on. Brilliant story/job unfolding.

As to the excess"wobble /side play" in the Triton mitre slide, take the slide off and discard it. Make a hardwood slide the the exact runner guide measurement width and the same depth as the Triton one. then a smidgeon of beeswax and your problem will be cured.

Hi Gemma and Simon. Like the saw. Couple of suggestions, make a push stick to push the timber through so fingers are out of the way of the blade. The other is to spray the table with some silicone spray, it allows the timber to slide easily past the blade. Like your work. Rgds John.

injectors can also get FOD (foreign object debris) or the crack open pressure in the injector is off. Send it in to get overhauled, for those older nozzle only types, not too expensive.

I'm fascinated by the works you are doing but i have one nagging question... Is the ship as strong as she was when originally built? I know you've used bucket loads of gloop (epoxy) but isn't the loss of continuous planks/bearers etc an inherent weakness? I really admire your patience and work, my question is borne out of genuine interest.

I am convinced the ship happens crew watched every episode of the original "Mission Impossible" series as kids.

Hi Gemma and Simon, i am the owner of a vessel very similar to yours its EX MOD with a big old history to it but construction wise its very similar with some unquie features. I tempted at starting a youtube to document it but unsure. Its down on the canal where Sarinda used to be located. Im about to start restoration on it as its suffered from leaky decks. Its my dream vessel though ive been after it for a couple years to save it.

Discard the new push sticks you have plastic ones but here's a idea after you fiber glass the deck why don't you use a self-sealing membrane like the use on houses and roofs it seals around the nails and screws that you drive threw it but you can't apply it untill your ready for planking it because the sunlight does something to it has to be covered in a short time but works great to keep water out and it sopost to last 50 years

never use a plastic push stick. a push stick should be sacrificial like wood. NEVER plastic. it snags and you are F-------CKED. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

You really shouldn't be flying the white ensign. You are not a commissioned vessel of the RN.

This episode is both relaxing and inspiring. However, the table saw technique used at 22:20 is extremely dangerous. Just using a push stick is not enough reduce the risk of kickback. I say this from personal experience. A feather board on the fence pushing down on the stock and on the table pressing against the stock, along with the push stick will help insure that the stock will remain on the table moving in the desired direction. Also, I would never stand directly behind the piece, but off to the side. I have made enough mistakes to know that relying on the safety features alone of any power tool is not the best way to proceed.

Sarinda is a ship that is very much part of the history of the Second World War and I am pleased that the Royal Navy gave you permission to fly the Naval ensign on her to commemorate the D-Day landings. Indeed, it wouldn't have been the first time for Sarinda to proudly fly the naval ensign. An important event in history that contributed greatly in securing the freedoms that we enjoy today and liberated much of Europe from the tyranny of an ideology that was based on hatred, expansionism and a false sense of racial superiority. Lest we forget why so many made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Normal is highly overrated

Tip for the day. well two tips. First tip is LEAVE the guard on at all time, I know it is a pain but nowhere near as painful as taking 3mm off the end of your thumb and spending weeks doing rehab, voice of experience. Tip two, when the grip for the fence, that little handle you push down to lock it in place, fails to grip anymore, put a cable tie, zip tie, whatever, between the locking mech and the handle to give it something else to grip with. It works, again the voice of experience.

Can you alter the saw to fix the little quirks to suit u ?

First thing I do with a table saw is get rid of that silly blade guard. If you pay attention and pace yourself, you'll be fine. I've been using table saws since I was a teenager, and I still have all my limbs, digits, and tentacles intact. Obviously this isn't an endorsement to disable safety equipment.
